How I Use It
In a senior English class studying Oscar Wilde, students were asked to research aspects of Victorian England. They just needed an overview of the period in order to under the jokes, puns and impact of Wilde's writing.
Each student was given a topic - Victorian Clothing, Culture, Technology, Child labor, Poverty, Values. They had a lesson to research using books and online sources, and needed to write their own note.
The next lesson (or for homework) students type up their notes into wordl. They can then alter the settings to make a word cloud in the style or setting they liked.
Wordl clouds were then used as the visual stimulus for a 1 min presentation on the researched topic.
The Wordl clouds are displayed in the classroom and served as a quick reminder of the period in order to understand the jokes, themes and issues in the play (The Importance of Being Earnest).
Quick and easy way to consolidate learning. It was a great way to my students to demonstrate their research and learning on a topic without being reliant on notes.
