How I Use It
I have used Wikispaces many times with my classes, it is a great site for having all of your students work on a project at the same time. From your home wikispace page, you can create a page for each student, or each student group, and they are able to edit these pages simultaneously (providing they are signed in). All of the work for a particular project can be found by visiting the Wikispaces site and navigating through the students' pages that you've created. They can add/edit text, photos, and (they taught me) PDFs.They can also comment on each others pages. I can send them direct messages, post instructions and monitor all their work in one place. Also, it's easy to share our work with parents, simply by posting the link to the Wikispaces page,. The parents love to see what we're up to.:)
This teaching tool is really useful, because it allows our class to "corral" our learning on one easy-to-navigate webpage. It's easy to share what we're working on, what we need to improve and give one another feedback. It's easy for the kids to find the pages they need to read or edit. The settings can be changed to allow public comments or keep your page private. I love that this tool is free, and all I have to do is add my class list to get us started. I have used Wikispaces for our Book Clubs, PBL projects, and as a blog.
