How I Use It
I have a simple website for my students and their parents to access with information about their classes and homework assignments. The real fun is when the students get to use it though. I teach photography, so my students use Weebly to create a portfolio website with their best photographic work to share with family, friends, and the world. The students loved the idea of creating their own website and they loved how easy it was to set up and use. The students not only got experience picking their best work, but the also had to figure out how to design their site and showcase their work in the best way possible. My students did have some problems with their sites not saving their work after they had made some edits, but that was only a couple of times. The only other problem they had was it seemed to have a limit on the number of pictures you could have on a page, but it never told you how many so sometimes my students pictures would disappear and they would have to just create a new page to add more pictures. Overall, I really enjoyed using this website in my classroom and it was very effective.
Weebly is a great free tool for teachers to create their own website and allow up to 40 students create a website as well. Weebly is very easy to setup and use in the classroom. I didn't even have to give the students any instructions other than getting them logged in, they were able to figure it out from there. I love that you can just drag and drop the elements that you want to add to your website.
