How I Use It
I've used it numerous ways - we sent a "virtual" Flat Stanley to kids' relatives and they provided feedback on where Stanley ended up. We also did a great biography project where kids each had a screen with a picture of their biography artwork and then did voice overs to elaborate on their subjects. Kids love to hear their own voices and see their own work; VoiceThread engages the kids by letting them see and hear the praise of their parents, teachers and peers.
VoiceThread offers teachers and students a way to share student's work and get online feedback in a safe environment. Students can upload pictures, presentations, or videos and outsiders can provide comments of feedback. Comments can be made by text or voice and can be moderated so no hurtful items can be transmitted back to the creator. There is a huge downside, however, and that is if you discontinue your subscription, you lose access to everything. With a cost of $79 per year, or $15 per month, teachers need to be sure they want to commit for an extended period if they want the ability to build a portfolio of work. Teachers need to know that without continuing a subscription, they will be locked out from viewing any past content.
