How I Use It
I create Pathways for my students that correlate to what I am teaching in class. When I first started, I really liked how TTM gave a pre-test so I could see where the students are in terms to content. I have created STAAR Reviews combining different pathways. The students love the fact that they can create their own Avatar as well as create classroom goals for pizza parties. They compete for points and bragging rights as a class and as a grade level! I even had one student in the top 20 in the entire state of Texas. The one thing that didn't work is the fact that I really wanted to itemize the pathways and I couldn't - for example, I wanted them to review Elapsed Time, but couldn't create a pathway specifically for that. I LOVE that they can get live help as well as the option to have it read to them! This helps my SPED kids as well as ELLs.
My Take
I think that anything engaging and fun is a powerful tool, and Think Through Math is that most definitely! We are teaching a generation geared by technology and this is totally on track with teaching this generation of students. IT WORKS. It is another tool to help the students gain knowledge on content specific to STAAR testing. I love this program!!!!! Again, the students love the fact that they can create their own Avatar as well as create classroom goals for pizza parties.
