How I Use It
Using Think Through Math in my tutoring and enrichment groups has really improved some of my students scores on tests. We take the NWEA MAP test 3x a year. The last time we took it in December before we started using TTM. My homeroom just took the End-of-the-Year test and I had 3 students who have never made their goal in MAP finally make it! One of them scored 22 points higher than in the winter! I attribute this success to Think Through Math. The classes LOVE the pizza party and other incentives they can win each month. I have a very competitive group of kids this year and they've already won 2 pizza parties through this program. We are working on $25 gift cards right now and are crossing our fingers one student wins today. They love this program because they love competing with each other and seeing their lesson passed and point leaders on the bulletin board I have created in the hallway. I love that the low learners can score points no matter what lesson they're on and still make the board for point leaders. It really gives them a boost of confidence.
My Take
Like I said before, I really do think using TTM helped my students score higher on MAP. We haven't received our STAAR scores yet but I bet if we start using it in August next year, most students if not all will reach the Think30 goal and pass STAAR for math or even get commended. I have already put 3 students on the 6th grade pathway because they've passed all 30 5th grade pathway lessons. And we only started in January! They do need help using the HELP buttons and some still guess just to get through it. I think some that do use the HELP buttons still are confused at understanding the explanations...especially my ELLs.
