How I Use It
I use TTM in three of my classes. The class is called Math Lab and is a class for students that have been identified as At-Risk when it comes to their math education. I have one class for each grade (6th, 7th, & 8th). This is my first time using the TTM program. I have students logging in to TTM 3 times a week. They are required to complete at least 3 lessons per week. I also have them keep Math Journals to document all of their work and notes as they work through their individualized pathways. I check their journals at the end of each week to make sure they are showing their work and taking notes. I also make sure to check the reports in order to keep tabs on each students and their progress.
I think TTM is a great teaching tool. Students love using it because of the immediate feedback they receive, and they also love the motivational pieces to TTM. I like that it adapts to each student and what each student is able to do, and works with that student on what it is specifically they need to get better at. It also is great for advanced students because it can move students through a pathway quicker and therefore introduce students to material they may not have seen yet in their normal math class. Students do use the help tabs, but are more apt to ask me for help instead of a TTM teacher. I do not have any students that have used that feature yet. So far I have really enjoyed using the TTM program, and I'm sure I will continue to see the benefits of using it in my class.
