How I Use It
Think Through Math was purchased by my school for every student. I use it in my Special Needs classroom during what we call, Think Through Math Thursdays. I like that I can set TTM to their individual math ability levels, thus I can differentiate for each student based on their readiness. The word problems are still very difficult for my struggling readers to solve on their own, even at the lowest level so it has involved me being 1:1 with multiple students during a 45 minute class period, simply reading word problems to them, or attempting to decipher some of the direction for some of the problems (which I admittedly often times have difficulty understanding as well!)
My Take
Overall, TTM is great for General Education Classes as well as Advanced Learners if you're looking for more student driven/independent work. In my Special Education Classroom, TTM is great when brought down to the students' individual levels, and if you don't mind working WITH them through it. I consider this at the Modification Level of SAMR because it's enhancing an already developed Math curriculum, as well as transforming the delivery of content and process students use to learn/practice material. In order for this App to "REDEFINE" the lessons, I suppose there would need to be more practice and assessment components in order to replace more of the textbook curriculum, and the program would need to stop students when they're failing in order to remediate and not let them pass lessons after so many non-mastery attempts.
