How I Use It
Think Through Math is an adaptive math practice suite that specializes in personalized instruction and gradual support for students in grade 3 - Algebra I. Students start by taking a diagnostic test, which is used to create a "lesson pathway" of skills based on their needs and zone of proximal development. As students work through their lessons, they are given instant feedback on correct and incorrect answers. If they are struggling, they can get assistance from an automated teacher or be referred to a live teacher for 1-on-1 instruction over text or voice (in English or Spanish!). Through the program, the emphasis is on teaching students to look at math as a system that makes sense, and effective strategies to approach and solve Common Core math problems. Think Through Learning is designed to be accessible to all students, but it stands out in the level of support available to students who are struggling. This product would be ideal for RTI programs, ELL classrooms, tutoring sessions, or summer learning.
My Take
While the personalized program would be great for all students, Think Through Math shines as a resource for students who need more support in math concepts - especially students who are learning English or students with special needs. The lessons are designed to give students a "gradual release" toward working independently on math skills, and the level of help and coaching students are able to access makes this program unique from other adapted math practice sites.
