How I Use It
I use it to teach internet safety in grades 4 and 5. We begin in whole class Then the students create their own account. I have a checklist for all the missions and extra areas they need to visit. They have to finish all areas on the checklist BEFORE they can buy anything in the store and decorate their dorm room. I also have a rubric to grade their completion of the game. The first year, I had a dorm decorating contest. At the end of this unit, everyone shows off their dorm room. The class votes and the winner received a certificate. I have since discontinued the decorating contest. It became a popularity contest as these things usually do.
This is one of the best Internet Safety programs that I have used. It does require teachers to load on each computer for individual use. Or it can be loaded on one computer and used with a Smart Board. Students become engaged with the characters and the lessons. Most of the time they want to keep playing at home. It is worth the time to set up.
