How I Use It
These videos are great to use as review, reinforcement, enhancement of curricula and introduction to a new concept. "The 2,400-year search for the atom" was an excellent review for what we learned in class through our textbook and notes. The animation together with the script served as a great recap and big picture look at the major discoveries of the atom. The students were able to follow along to review knowledge and in some cases clarify what they had not picked up earlier. "Why do chemicals react" is a wonderful way to further our study of chemistry using vocabulary we have already covered and introducing Enthalpy and Entropy. The example of the golf balls was understood by most of the students and for the others gave a good image from which I could draw on to help them. There is no classification beyond Physical Science so one must scroll through many videos. I liked the questions and discussion topics that went with the videos. Not all the questions were great but they provided a framework that I could follow to better engage the students.
My Take
These are great videos. They are short and engaging. Most of the narration is done at a good pace with fun images to accompany them. The topics are somewhat random, but there is one on non-newtonian fluids I will definitely use before introducing ooblek. My ELL students and Special needs students will not understand too much of the concepts but the visuals will help.
