How I Use It
We utilize Symphony Math as a supplemental tool to support all levels of tiered math support. From small group instruction in tier 1, to our most struggling students in tier 3 and even for students with an IEP or EL.
My Take
High quality instructional tools in mathematics that truly merge a plugged and unplugged experience for students is almost non-existent. Symphony Math utilizes research on development of how the brain learns math and applies it throughout its entire design of the tool. Everything in the program has a reason for the design, from the colors, the manipulatives, the tools and the adaptive functionality. It follows the research on how to teach math, from a concrete, to visual representation to an abstract sequence to teach number sense. In addition, the unplugged components of the program for teachers such as the guided practice lessons and a checkpoint writing prompt to ensure students transfer their understanding of their numbers is what makes this tool the best one available on the market. Ive researched and reviewed tons of math tools over my 12 years as a district leader and non have compared to Symphony Math.
