How I Use It
I have used Symbaloo in many different ways. For those of you that do not know what it is, it is a way to bookmark sites in a cloud based way for students or yourself to access again. In past years, I have created Symbaloos on different topics so the students can access the exact website I want them to go on without getting on to anything else. This year, I am hoping to put a symbaloo into our website so that parents can access websites with the students. It is a very concise way of gathering information for the students. One example I have done is an animal project. I wanted to students to just access certain webcams, but I wanted to give them a variety of animals to choose from. I set up the Symbaloo and push it out to the students. They were able to easily access the webcams. I did this lesson with Kindergarten and 1st. In the upper grades I have done more complex websites.
It is a great tool to help us gather websites that are appropriate for our students to use. It is free to set up an account so you don't have to worry about paying for it. There is a portion that does cost and you can look into what that has to offer. I have found this tool very beneficial in my teaching. I don't just use it in my teaching, but I have used it in workshops that I have presented at. My favorite part about Symbaloo is how easy it is to use. I don't have to waste time figuring out what to do. I highly recommend looking into the program.
