How I Use It
StudySync has the potential to be a stand-alone resource, but at this point, is much more suited as practical digital addition to preexisting curricula and lesson plans. The classroom highlight here is that students can use StudySync independently to either build foundational knowledge (Close-read assignments) or to practice reading comprehension skills (Blast assignments). In a hybrid setting, StudySync could be used to introduce or further develop understanding of a text (fiction or non-fiction) in an independent setting, while a collaborative group could discuss one or more of the provided prompts. StudySync isn't an everyday tool, but can definitely offer a lot of opportunities to increase student participation with texts.
My Take
StudySync combines a number of elements in order to deliver students with opportunities to close-read text and discuss major ideas. Some of the more helpful elements of StudySync are found in the types of assignments -- quick "blast" assignments (quick-read articles with editable lexile levels) and close-read assignments. Many of the close-read assignments have video clips or video discussion guides that can help students frame their own discussions. This can be great for students who are either learning to create arguments or who just need a reminder on what using textual evidence looks and sounds like. Other features like vocabulary and built-in writing prompts also make this platform attractive to educators looking to digitally enhance their lesson plans.
