How I Use It
I use Socrative to pose question to my class and gain instant feedback on their understanding of a topic. For example I love to use it for vocabulary review. i can pose any sort of question (ex: define xx, use xx in a sentence, what is an example of xx in the real world, etc.) and students answer using any device they have. You can go as deep or introductory as you want because you as the teacher write the questions and choose the type (true/false, multiple choice, short answer).
My Take
I love that I can create quizzes and store them as well as the results. This allows me to write out my questions ahead of time and make sure my questions ask exactly what I want them to and not an on the fly question that may come across vague or unclear. It also allows me to store the quizzes and use them another year when teaching the same content. I like that I can write questions ahead of time, and get everything set up and ready to go. That way when Students enter I can have my "room number" on the board so all they have to do is enter and then when I open the quiz for viewing we're off. I did however have to take about 5-8 minutes the first time I used it to lay out my expectations as well as how to use the tool. One thing I didn't particularly like is the answers are all very "traditional" meaning you have to use their question format. Sometimes I wish students could DRAW their answer or add an audio file, especially in a music classroom where playing an accent on a note may be a better assessment than defining it in words.
