How I Use It
I use it in tandem with Duolingo. Students use Socrative in my German class to take quizzes on what they have learned in class and also from Duolingo. Students also practice material using the game features. The exit ticket feature may be useful once in a while, but it can be more time consuming to get all of the students set up just for an exit ticket. I still prefer to do exit tickets written on paper. That being said, quizzes are more efficient on Socrative and Socrative sends you a report with student answers and results, which really saves you grading time and gives you an electronic record.
This product is primarily an assessment tool, but can be used for review and practice games. Students love using the technology and many prefer it over a traditional pencil and paper assessment. It is easy to set up, free, and great for collaboration as well because you can send your quizzes to other teachers. The newer updates to the website have some glitches that need to be worked out, but I do believe the improvements will be worthwhile.
