How I Use It
I primarily use this product as a review tool however I have also used it as a ticket to enter or exit the class based on material assigned or covered. My college students are espcially thrilled to be allowed to use their phones in class to answer the questions. If everyone doesn't have phones or is having problems getting service, I use it as an opportunity to pair or group up students who may otherwise not work with each otherI wish there was a way for students to use the product on their own so that it doesn't always have to be teacher led. My students have asked if they could review the materials and take the quizzes on their own and not just when I have them do them in class. Some of my students have asked to develop quizzes that they use for their classmates when I have asked them to present a topic as an assignment in class. They fond the product just as easy to use. I would like the students to have the capability to develop their own student driven quizzes that can be shared with others and not have them rely on using my teacher sign on to develop their own quizzes.
I am so thrilled (and surprised) how competitve my college students are. They love using Socrative to study for exams and review materials in class. It is extremely easy to use for setting up questions to use in class. While elementary in design I wasn't sure how receptive adult learners would be to "playing" the rocket ship game but everyone has that competitive spirit. When I first introduced it to my department colleagues the sample quiz that I set up was quite cut throat. I like the product because it provides a different way to review materials than the old fashioned PowerPoint Jeopardy that I used or just handing out a study sheet and telling them to have at it!
