How I Use It
I use Socrative to check on students during a lesson. For example, during a math lesson I ask a single question activity to find out if students are on the right track. The students submit their answers and I instantly find out how many students chose what answer. Then I know if I have to reteach a concept or if I can move on. It also keeps students more engaged.
You can also create and save quizzes. You receive live information about which problem each student is on and if it's multiple-choice you can also find out how many problems they answered correctly. When all students are done with the quiz you can download a report that shows each students' score and their answers. My students love taking their quizzes on iPads instead of traditional paper and pencil!
One downside is that the students cannot go back and change their answers. Students were frustrated with that, but they learned to be careful when selecting their answers. I think there is an update coming soon that addresses that problem.
I love that Socrative provides me instant feedback about what my students know. It provides me with valuable information to drive my instruction. I'm able to adjust accordingly and find out where every student is in their understanding.
