How I Use It
I use it for quick in-class checks with students, especially in classes where there are problems getting volunteers. I also use it has a tool for students to work individually or in small groups to do things like summarize readings. It will upload an Excel file straight to you with the names of the students and exactly what they wrote for every question... it allows me to check their understanding and literacy ability in my History class before they even leave the room. You can also use it as a "Ticket to Leave" type assignment, where they spend the end of the class answering a set of questions, so I can evaluate exactly what they picked up from that specific class.
Socrative is very engaging for my students, particularly for my Special Ed and ELL students. It allows me to phrase a question to the class, have all the students to vote, and the students can then see their answer, as well as all the other students' answers. It allows students to develop metacognition, in that if they are answering the question wrong, they can easily look to classmates and begin to think about how they should think about the question to answer it correctly.
