How I Use It
I’ve been using this product for over two years in the English classroom and it has definitely saved me more and more time with some processes I use. I use this tool for delivering content to students (documents, quizzes, lectures, discussion boards, grading…). First, it’s a great tool to securely post documents and material for classes. I post all kinds of things for kids to access including the lectures and other links of interest and for class. I also use Schoology to deliver assessments to students. I’ve given multiple choice/True & False/short answer and timed writes in class through Schoology. It will auto-grade most of it except the written responses. Grading is slick in that I can grade a whole class of similar responses at once and quickly. The Schoology gradebook also syncs to the districts own separate program through an integration. It hasn’t been flawless but I’ve encountered few problems in the integrated gradebook. Everything does work but some of the design could benefit from a light overhaul with less clicking and less of a reliance on the social network look.
I really like the tool and it does 10x more than Google Classroom does. It’s functions go to the granular level on assessments which is really, really nice to have so much control. On the flip side, one might get overwhelmed with so many options to choose from. I also really like how the students just know that there is a centralized place to grab content. As more teachers in the building and district, more students will buy into the use of Schoology overall. They are already beginning to use it habitually as the go-to tool.
I also like how Schoology has an app for the MANY students with a smartphone. They can interact with the program in an engaging and easy way with the app!
