How I Use It
The very best feature about Schoology is that you only have to make something one time. Make it once, save it in resources, and then you'll only need to copy it to courses (of course you can revise). This is a HUGE improvement over some of the other free options out there where I have to remake assignments for every class period AND then remake them every year. Meaning, Schoology saves you time the first year and even more time the second. You also can choose how things appear for your students by not only publishing and unpublishing folders, but also whether students have to click on a link to view the page or if the page appears in line. Embedding is also a huge asset making it where I can add a Symballoo, Padlet, Mentemeter, etc. in the page. The organization and keeping everything within Schoology makes it very easy for students to navigate.
We've also been using it for District-wide professional development which worked great!
Schoology is what you make it. Sure, there are probably educators out there just getting their toes wet with it by merely using it as a digital filing cabinet for students, but there is so much more to it. You can differentiate for different populations or individuals, house entire lessons within, and create a robust digital classroom.
