How I Use It
I use Schoology for so many things. To start, I use it to communicate with all of my students and the staff. I do not see all of them every day and it is very useful for users to be able to ask me a question when they think of it instead of waiting until they see me and possibly forgetting. However, I can edit my notifications so I see what I want to see when I need to. I use Schoology to keep the school updated on what is going on. I can post announcements as updates so that students can stay up to date on everything in their classes. I can deliver content to students whenever I need to. I can make items available to students for a specific time period. It helps to keep my students organized. I use Schoology to deliver PD to staff. We can all keep portfolios and resource collections that we can share and interact with. I can create my own courses that I can share with staff members to deliver digital citizenship curriculum and other school-wide initiatives that don't require a traditional class setting. However, Schoology reads course info right from our Student Information System so our courses are prepopulated for us and always up to date. No enrolling our own students! We have teams of teachers and students who use Groups for a variety of topics. Clubs, blogs, grade levels, sports and interests all have a home on Schoology. Students and staff are loving the online assignments, assessments, grades, resources and communication. It has been the most amazing compliment to our 1:1 Technology Initiative.
My Take
Schoology is exactly what we needed to get our 1:1 Technology Initiative off the ground. I like everything about it so far. I think there are a couple of tweaks that it could benefit from but it does have a "feature request" area of the support center where users can make these kinds of requests. Support has been great. I find that a phone call or chat works better than email support. With the enterprise version, you get lots of customized one-on-one support and our Implementation manager was spectacular. She held my hand on several occasions to make sure Schoology was up and running smoothly for our school.
