How I Use It
I have used it extensively to communicate with my classes. "Remember--test on Thursday!" and so on. I send out reminders before each assessment or project due date. It also comes in handy if class is cancelled for some reason, to touch base with students regarding the schedule. I have also used it with clubs I advise that have students I may not see on a daily basis, It works extremely well for that. I also use the app on my iPhone to send messages when I am not at school. I have been so pleased with Remind 101.
My Take
Remind 101 is not a tool used in the classroom per se. It is a communication tool for teachers. Teachers set up an account, students join that account and teachers can mass text message the class with reminders, etc. Teachers never have students' actual cell phone numbers and a complete record of what is sent and when stays in the teacher's account. Remind 101 also just added support for attachments, meaning you can add a photo or document to your messages. You are limited to 140 characters in the text.
