How I Use It
I use Remind101 to send updates to my players about practices, games, etc. I would use it with teaching if my students were older and had cell phones. It is a quick way to get information out and now with the app, it is even faster because I don't have to have a computer to send messages. Kids respond well to texts because this day and age sees the majority of high school students with phones. A text is much more efficient and effective for teenagers than an email or, gasp!, a phone call! :) I like now that Remind101 allows you to send a message to a subset of your kids too. There are times when I only want to contact the captains because they need to help make decisions for the team, so I can do that without having to set up a new "class" within Remind101. I also like it because the coaches all get the information at the same time too. I would definitely use this within teaching if I had the right age group.
My Take
Remind101 is an awesome tool! I do not use it with my students because I teach elementary school, but I do use it with the girls I coach through basketball. This website/app allows me to send text messages to my players and their parents and it is efficient and easy to use. I love that the players do not have the capability to respond to my texts, making it a fast, yet private way to communicate. As a teacher and coach, you always hear the horror stories about students who get their teachers' numbers and then abuse it. Remind101 allows me to contact my players without the worry. I also like that you can print off a record of all of the messages you have sent so you have documentation in case someone were to question your professionalism. I know my wife uses this tool to keep in contact with her students (high school). She likes it too because kids do not have an excuse that they "didn't know" something was due. I think schools in general should use it to get information out to kids quickly.
