How I Use It
I use Read Works with students to teach them comprehension strategies. I have saved the PDF's onto a server and had students access the file online with a link or in a folder. The students can also answer the questions on a SmartBoard as a class. The questions are very rich and require close reading. Read Works is good about sending emails when new articles are posted and they add a lot of content frequently. You can also print the articles for students but we are trying to save paper costs. Read Works lists the articles by lexile, grade, domain, text type and strategy. It is easy to search for articles to use with any classroom subject and any student ability.
My Take
I like the articles because they are lexile based, and interesting for the students to read. I like the format of the website for ease of use and understanding. It is super easy to find articles and download them. You also can make your own "Binder" to place the articles you like. I like everything about Read Works. The kids are engaged when they read the articles. I wouldn't recommend students go to this site, it is a TEACHER RESOURCE! You should bookmark this site and set up an account, you will be glad you did!
