How I Use It
This is a program that our school bought for the entire school. I use it mostly for small groups and for the children to use at home. We encountered a huge problem at my school where children didn't have books to read at their guided reading level. Additionally, the parents had difficulty figuring out what books were appropriately leveled for their children at home and in the library.
This is a phenomenal app and website for children and the parents. It works especially great for children with disabilities and the ELL population. My favorite part of this app is the ability for the books to be read to children. While it reads the books it highlights what line is being read in green and then the exact word that is being read is highlighted in yellow. This enables the child to follow along flawlessly. This is extremely important in a household where a parent cant help their child either due to time or academic limits. The children feel very motivated to learn in this game because they are able to rack up points and use the points to build their own robots. A master reader is able to read the book as simply a digital book and with every book is an interactive quiz. The children get more points for answering the quiz and then even more points for going back and correcting their work. The app and website are both child, parent, and teacher friendly. The teacher is capable of viewing how many books have been read and what level the child is progressing to. This will of course with consistent use scaffold the child's learning to the next level. It gives complete control of the program to the teacher. Lastly, the program comes with personalized letters and code/user name cards for each student. This is so convenient.
