How I Use It
This product is great for teaching keyboarding and social/digital responsibility. This product can be used in a computer literacy class in an elementary school or in the classroom as a center. Teachers have the flexibility to assign a lesson to a class or allow students to work through lessons at their own pace. Social rewards are included in the program, which are great to encourage students to continue. There is also a built-in e-mail system, which can be accessed by teachers and/or parents. Kids love the fact that they can customize an avatar (a cartoon-like character which guides them through the lessons). The only downside would be, the program is only available to schools and individuals can't purchase their own accounts (if a parent wanted to purchase for home use).
My Take
Overall, I believe this resource is engaging and fun for students. The website include lessons which provide opportunities for modeling, guided practice and independent practice. I also like the "safe atmosphere" in which students are allowed to interact socially via e-mail or chats. Furthermore, these social interactions can only happen after students complete a specific amount of the lessons and/or earned a specific amount of tokens. There is a cost to this website.
