How I Use It
Quizlet is a review/study application that helps students prepare for assessments and testing. Students create related noted cards (Ex: Medical terminology element with meaning). The digital note cards can be flipped to help the student study. There are different presentation options available such as randomizing the note cards and changing them to show the definition rather that the root word. Students can create and take a quiz online as practice. We have created a class on Quizlet. Each student has a weekly assignment to create cards for the assigned Medical Terminology elements and meanings. Each day at the beginning of class, the student with the assignment reviews the cards with the class. We also do this with our medical abbreviations. There is a Quizlet application for cell phones that students use in conjunction with Quizlet on their computer. This allows them to study “on the go.” Quizlet can also be used as a form of friendly competition among students. They compete to complete a quiz and earn points. This encourages students to study and be prepared for class.
Quizlet is a valuable teacher resource. It has the option to allow you to borrow cards from other teachers as well as share cards with others. You can add images to the cards you generate, create the cards in different languages, and add a voice recording. This allows the teacher to reach different types of learners—the motion, movements of creating and changing the cards, the visuals provided, and audio for those that need or want it. Students can own their education with this application. Quizlet is user friendly and adaptable for different age groups.
