How I Use It
I love this website so much! Let me count the ways ...
1) Once I teach students how to search for information relating to what we are studying (generally textbook name + level # + chapter name) the students see how many cardsets have already been uploaded. I am a world language teacher and as such I use this for word memorization. If this is ALL YOU DO, this is already a great resource for kids, especially as they can practice with the cards on their iphones etc.
2) I go beyond that and use the card sets as "definition" or "example sentence" on one side, and the word on the other. To me, this takes it beyond the level of word recognition a bit. My students use others' cards and then use mine when they are more familiar with the vocabulary.
3) Once students use the cards, they go on ... self-quiz, self-practice and then play the basic but still fun games to practice spelling.
4) some students will then make their own personal card sets, for example of "my most challenging words" and add to them over time.
I'm sure there are even more applications but this site is best for its simple practice.
Wow, how much do I love quizlet.com? Enough that they should be giving me some kind of a royalty for the # of students and parents that I refer to the site. This is a website that has add-on apps -- that are all free! -- that my students LOVE to download and use. In addition, when I bring it up at B2SN or P/T conferences, parents get so excited to have a tool that allows them to help their kids with information they may not know themselves. My only critique is that in order to use the "insert photo" option you have to become a pro member ... but I'll be honest, I'm probably going to upgrade this year as this is one of my top 5 sites I use.
