How I Use It
I direct students to this website when I'm seeing the same citation errors in their writing. It's a fantastic resource for MLA and APA formatting. Additionally, I refer my juniors and seniors to the site for a grammar refresher, but they've often used it for other writing direction as well. I've also pulled up the website in front of my class when we have a grammar issue that we're stumped with and used the site to introduce an upcoming writing assignment.
The Purdue OWL offers a comprehensive writing resource for my students. I've used it many times on a personal level, and I love being able to recommend a credible and informative site to my students for issues on commas and citations (and everything in between). The site is easy to navigate, and the content is straightforward and offers examples. Although it's very text heavy and can seem intimidating, students can access the plethora of writing resources easily. Although it's not engaging, it's an excellent online writing handbook, and I prefer this online service over having a hard copy of a writing handbook.
