How I Use It
I have used it for staff meeting presentations, class presentations, and as an option for my students (and teachers!) to use for their projects and presentations. Prezi has gone through some changes over it's life span, the Prezi of today is MUCH easier to manage and build your presentation. I have used this with during my staff presentations at our monthly meetings so they can see what it looks like and how it works, and many teachers have taken it back to their classrooms for students to use for their assignments. I am responsible for technology training for our new teachers and I always use this as one of the vehicles for my presentations. I find the controls very easy to use and have never run into any issues with it. There is a good selecting of themes to choose from so presentations usually don't look the same. We had an English teacher that used it with her class where the students were doing individual presentations and group presentations. Students were given a choice of whatever presentation application they wanted to use and over 75% of students chose Prezi. When the student got to the group presentation piece, they were able to collaborate online to build their presentation which enabled them to work from their own homes to complete the presentation. Some of the students claimed that they ran into issues with sharing their presentations with each other, but it was a small number of complaints (and it was mainly a result of faulty hardware, not the site). This site has enabled our students to be independent with their presentation creation due to it's ease of use.
My Take
I introduced Prezi to my students early on and they have been using it ever since. The movement between topics really helps to keep viewers attentions. Users are able to personalize their presentations with uploaded images and embedded videos and import sound files and are also able to download their presentations to use offline as an html file. Prezi also allows users to collaborate together on a presentation and share it with other users. My students and teachers that have used this have taken advantage of the zooming feature by having pieces of their presentations "hidden" throughout the page so that as they get to a topic or main point, the presentation zooms into a place on the page that viewers didn't know contained content. When rotating text boxes and objects, the entire presentation will move to right itself with the content. I have had students that have rotated everything in their presentation, and by the end of the presentation, some may feel a little sea sick because of it moving so much. Adding videos is very easy when using the embed code. Uploading images is very easy also. This tool gives my students another option for creating their presentations and many choose Prezi when given the option. The site is easy enough to pick up without much training.
