How I Use It
I use prezi as a presentation tool because it doesn't require installation or software licensing. I can walk up to a podium and run the slides.
I leverage the capacity of prezi to take one idea and dive into another. This introspective quality allows time for students to reflect on the concept, and to make a connection between ideas.
I also use prezi for homework assignment/project. I task students to create a prezi on a subject, usually a research assignment, then I ask that they record their own presentation and post on YouTube (age restrictions, privacy, etc needs to be assessed, YouTube can be set to hidden or private videos). Students are engaged in creation of prezi content.
Prezi promotes engagement during a lecture, because it limits time a student has to be distracted between ideas. While PowerPoint has transitions, they are visually boring. Prezi allows for transitions with a vector - both direction and magnitude towards the next concept.
