How I Use It
My students used Prezi to share pop culture connections to Transcendentalist thought, an idea I got from ReadWriteThink. They had already studied the characteristics of the time period, so in their presentations, they linked songs, movies, TV shows, cartoons, etc. to the relevant aspects by showing or playing the clips and explaining the connections. I have also used it for other presentations as one of many options for students to demonstrate their understanding of certain concepts, from literary devices to character studies.
Prezi offers beautiful, engaging designs with zooming capabilities, making it more interesting than PowerPoint. It is a bit harder to work with at first, but my high school students took to it quite naturally. One aspect I miss from PowerPoint is the ability to create an outline from the content, but students can access the presentations from their devices for later review. Overall, Prezi is a nice alternative to PowerPoint while still allowing them to include YouTube videos, music, etc.
