How I Use It
I've created a range of videos myself with Powtoons, including a video about laptop expectations and another to highlight all the great resources we have in the library. The students enjoy watching the video much more than they like watching me talk at them! I have even used the spy theme to launch a reading challenge across the school.
I often give an essay title or prompt and allow students to respond to it in any way they like, meaning I have some students writing essays, others working on presentations and also students creating videos. Some tools we use for this need teacher instruction, but Powtoons is super easy to use, so my students, (Grade 7 and above) can easily create cool videos with this! I haven't tried it yet with Grade 6 students, but would do so as a whole class activity, with students making videos in small groups.
I think it is a great tool for students to present the information they have gathered through research in a fun and engaging way. Students find the site easy to use, but feel a lot of pride in the videos they make. With the free account you do have an annoying jingle playing at the end of your video, but apart from that, it is wonderful.
