How I Use It
Poll Everywhere is a tool for surveys, student check-ins, and exit ticket style questioning. Personally, I have only used the free version; however, I haven't upgraded because I don't always find it easy to use. It's great for visual learners, as results of the question or survey are nicely displayed. I've used this with students and with teachers in PD. However, something always seems to go slightly amiss or requires a chunk of transition time - mostly in texting in/web based answering and a delay in the results. Students and teachers alike became fatigued with these issues, causing engagement to decrease. I think I would be more apt to use this if my students only had their personal cell phones available to them. Bonus: For GAFE schools, Google Slides as a Poll Everywhere add on! I know a few teachers who love this feature!
My Take
Overall, I really want to like Poll Everywhere. I love useful, quick formative assessment tools; however, this one rarely meets my needs. I have personally found better engagement and ease of use with tools like Nearpod, Socrative, Quizizz, Kahoot, and Plickers. To utilize this consistently, I think the price would need to be lower (since there are superior free options) and more user-friendly. Creating the polls is quick and efficient, but my troubles always seem to be when we go 'live'! I'm open if anyone has any tips for me!
