How I Use It
Poll Everywhere allows students to answer short questions or to provide feedback. I use mainly to gather data from my students.
I pose a question and project a set of numbers on my screen (writing them on a board would work too). Students text a series of digits to the specified number to cast their vote. Any phone with texting capabilities works. No need for special clickers, smart phones, or laptops. Students can vote from a friends phone or from a classroom computer if necessary.
I use Poll Everywhere to give students voice in our classroom. They vote on the structure of our day, the way we will organize our learning, etc. I also use it to have them vote for their favorite stories.
I also use this to gauge their understanding. It can work as an anonymous quiz to see how many students "get it."
I love this tool because it is so easy to use. I also love that students don't need smart phones, iPads, etc. Almost all of my students can send a text, and it takes no time at all.
Poll Everywhere will also create a simple bar graph of the results, so it's easy to see where students get it and don't get it.
