How I Use It
My intentions were to initially use PollEverywhere to brainstorm ideas, to check for understanding, and to reinforce learning objectives. However, it's too early yet for me to thoroughly evaluate it. See below.
I estimated more than 15 minutes for Setup time in order to watch the videos, look around the site and learn enough to get you started. However, once you know what you're doing you can get a poll up and running in less than 5 minutes.
What didn't work for me was not having "moderation" on the free K-12 Basic plan. IMO, moderation is an indispensable feature and needs to be available even on the free K-12 Basic plan.
I realize that moderation may be a key feature used to motivate people to become paid subscribers, but without moderation in the free K-12 Basic plan, you may have a negative initial experience. The inability to delete inappropriate or junk responses, leaves the poll unmanageable. Despite directions and setting expectations with students, inevitably some students will make an inappropriate or unwanted choice, thus the teacher needs to be able to delete and possibly suspend further responses from any user in the moment. Otherwise your lesson can go sideways quickly, and what you were trying to accomplish can be lost or set back.
So I ended up with this dilemma… "I can't manage the poll without moderation. If I can't manage the poll in the free version, then I can't safely assess PollEverywhere as a learning tool using their free version. In sum, I don't recommend the free version because the essential feature of "moderation" is not available. Therefore if you want to safely tryout PollEverywhere for K12, then you need to spend $50 for their K12 Premium plan.
