How I Use It
I use these simulations to introduce new or complex scientific concepts in lectures, in-class activities, lab work and in homework. They are particularly useful when used to introduce and reinforce skills that are related to the use of laboratory equipment. Students can repeat the activities as many times as necessary to improve their understanding without being restricted by limited and sometimes expensive laboratory materials.
My Take
PhET simulations cater for a range of student learning styles and abilities. When embedded into the everyday teaching and learning activities these simulations are particularly effective. The educational researchers and software designers at University of Colorado - Boulder have really done their homework resulting in a range of stimulating and easy to use interactive simulations. Each simulation is linked to a number of suggested programming ideas as well as a range of student and teacher resources.
