  • Equating multiple representations is a great way to gain fraction intuition.
  • Watch your equations change in real time while you adjust a line on a coordinate plane.
  • Visualizing least-squares regression is incredibly powerful to novice statistics students.
  • Projectile motion is at its best when made utterly ridiculous.
  • All tools are easy to find with a simple layout.

How Can Teachers Use It?

Interactive simulations, real-time visualizations, and virtual manipulatives make math concepts easier to internalize for almost all students, and PhET's tools are some of the best. There's a fairly small library of simulations compared to the site's other subjects, but all the tools offered are of excellent quality. From early fundamentals such as arithmetic, fractions, and estimation to advanced concepts in probability, trigonometry, and calculus, most classes from K-12 will find at least one tool useful. The Trig Tour and Least-Squares Regression sim are stunning interactive demonstrations of otherwise abstract concepts.

For plenty of ideas and concrete plans for implementing these tools in the classroom, check out the teacher-created resources including labs, guides, homework, and test questions that accompany each simulation.
