How I Use It
Our county recently replaced United Streaming with eMediaVA this year. Although I enjoyed United Streaming, I truly feel that eMediaVA is a wonderful asset in my classroom. EMediaVA provides teachers with an unlimited selection of resources that address each of Virginia's Standards of Learning. I love the fact that I can search by subject, grade and content area to find resources for introducing and further applying difficult concepts. As a second grade teacher, I want to provide my students with a variety of formats for learning new material. In this platform, I can assign videos, interactive content and follow-up activities to address different learning styles. I also like the fact that I can assign individualized assignments or group assignments, and assess and track student progress along the way. This year, I decided to spend time becoming familiar with the eMedia platform before fully utilizing this wonderful resource. Although my students and I explored this platform in a whole group setting this year, my plan is to utilize this platform in a small group setting next year. I would like to assign tasks and activities by learning styles and ability levels. I feel that this approach would allow me to track and gain a better idea for student understanding and mastery.
My Take
Overall, I feel that eMediaVA is a wonderful tool that can be utilized in the classroom for delivering and measuring growth and understanding of key concepts and skills. I like the fact that I can assign activities and my students can complete activities individually or in small group settings. I also liked the fact that this platform provides students with a variety of ways to learn and grasp concepts that might be difficult to understand. The option to assess my students on the materials that are assigned will allow me to pinpoint areas for concern and mastery. This valuable information will allow me to provide further remediation or more challenging material to meet the needs of each individual student.
