How I Use It
I used PBS Learning Media in my classroom mainly as a source of videos to supplement what we were learning in class. Usually I would use it during a supplemental/callback period, frontload or review the big ideas they would encounter, watch the video, then debrief. Some of the videos include a lesson plan that can be modified, but others do not. Occasionally, I would have trouble playing the videos when there were problems with our school's internet connection, but videos can be downloaded, so with a little planning, you can avoid that hiccup.
Students really enjoyed the videos, and would ask if they were watching them. Students asked questions, and since many of the videos are short, there is always time to rewatch them if students missed a piece. The age of the videos is pretty variable; there are some from the 1990s, while others are nearly new.
