How I Use It
PBS LearningMedia contains a wealth of resources. I appreciate the fact that a lot of the NOVA videos, which I have been using for years in my science classes, are available on this site. There is also a link to The Secret Life of Scientists and Engineers which is a great tool for career education, showing a mix of ethnicities and genders practicing science. I use this site at the beginning of the year to introduce students to various fields of science and then as we study about specific units, I use scientists practicing in that particular area as an introduction to the unit.
The videos and resources on this site are an excellent way to present content and reinforce what students have learned. The quality and usability of the resources vary, so any video or activity from the site should be previewed to ensure it will be engaging to students and meet the needs of the class. There are so many resources available, sometimes searching for a specific resource is a bit daunting. There is a tool that allows teachers to save their "favorites," which is helpful.
