How I Use It
I have used this product to supplement the lessons and activities that my students are completing in Biology. It is an interactive tool that really allows users to dig deeper into all different forms of live, both plant and animal. I encouraged my students to investigate different walks of life, using OneZoom to clarify when they first showed up on Earth, and where they can be located. I have also had learners use this website to identify animals that have become endangered. It provides outside links to information that can be used to describe what has led to their decline, and how long they are expected to survive at the current rate.
My Take
I believe that OneZoom is an effective, if somewhat superficial tool for providing supplemental biological information about plants and animals. It provides basic data in an engaging format, and allows for users to investigate further with the use of outside links such as Wikipedia. I really like the format of the site and the way in which it allows the learners to see the inter-connectivity of the different types of life. It could better serve the students by providing activities associated with the information that it provides, but this may be unrealistic, as the website is free to use without even a sign up required.
