How I Use It
This series of lessons is great for helping students understand how to keep their digital lives safe. The Educator Guide has an easy to follow 5E lesson plan that presents the basics of coding, and defending against cyber attacks. The layout of this site and easy to follow directions make it a good activity for blended/flipped classroom. Students need to reinforce their learning through notetaking and discussion. Students find the additional linked NOVA resources for extensions/review, interesting
My Take
Students find the game engaging and it allows students to learn about best practices for cybersafety. Students need to log in to the site in order to save their work. If they do so, they can take notes, and use them to write a lab report on the site. There is a big focus on vocabulary and little support for ELL and low literacy students. The students need a lot of support to successfully complete the video quizzes and lab report. The "Meet the Experts" link is a huge bonus. Students can read short bios with a video about people working in the field.
