How I Use It

I use this in my class to deepen student knowledge on topics covered in class. I have students choose from 2-3 articles to read and complete the quiz, students like the option to change the lexile level if they are low level readers, change language if the are ELL students, and learn more information on topics we have discussed. I also allow students to use this site to research current events which also provides them practice to acquire as well as retain literacy skills.

My Take

I think this teaching tool is a great way to help students utilize the literacy skills they have been taught and practice those skills to become better readers while deepening their knowledge on content area subject matter. I like that students are able to change the reading level to build their confidence while also challenging them to become better readers. I utilize Newsela to supplement the lessons that I teach to help students gain a deeper understanding while providing students the opportunity to make real world connections with the content we are covering in class.
