How I Use It

I have used NewsELA to expose individual or small group ELLs to current events topics in areas of student interest. I am currently using the free version of NewsELA, however in the future I may consider purchasing the PRO feature.

My Take

The best feature of NewsELA are the different reading levels of the same articles. The site serves different students by offering a diverse range of topics at at least five different Lexile levels. Most articles I’ve viewed are excerpts of authentic news stories as I am finding articles and reviewing them with students I feel like I’m getting my daily news as well.
