How I Use It
We use Newsela in gen ed as well as AIS and special ed classes. It is great for differentiation and students also like the fact that if they read at a lower level than some of their classmates, they are not embarrassed. A simple quiz checks understanding.
My Take
I wish that the assessments were a little more extensive. It is good practice for cold reads, so a longer or more comprehensive assessment would be useful. You also have the ability to convert to Spanish, so it would be a great tool for ELL learners, or for those students who take Spanish as a foreign language.
