How I Use It

I frequently use Newsela as a source for current news and controversial topics. Often Newsela articles will supplement a unit of study since they have such a range of interesting articles. I love that Newsela takes on tough topics; many other sites that provide teen friendly news shy away from topics that are contentious. That's the stuff that gets kids excited to read! Keep it up Newsela! My one complaint: I teach a reading intervention class, and most articles (even at their lowest available Lexile) are too hard for my students without further modification/scaffold from me. Provide a lower Lexile on ALL articles, please!
