How I Use It
Newsela is the quickest and easiest way to find an article about a recent event in the news that is at the appropriate reading level and length for my students. I use them as a starting point for a class discussion, or assign topics to individual students to read about and report back to the class. The website has online quizzes for some articles, but I have not used that feature.
The fact that I can specify topic, grade level and even the length of the article make this a no-brainer when it comes to finding articles for discussion of current events and to practice non-fiction reading skills. Saves countless hours of searching for and adapting articles myself for classroom use.
