How I Use It
There are several books in the talking library that correlate with thematic units. I will either play these for the whole class and discuss or students well listen to them at center time and respond by giving an opinion on their favorite part or recording the two most important pieces of information they learned. During our theme on colors we go over the color interactives and review the spelling of color words. We review math concepts with the math interactives with the whole group, small groups as needed, and independently. I use the worksheet generator for letter and high frequency word review. Some of the concept songs are used during transition time. We review making words with the word machine game. This is one of the most used and engaging website used in my kindergarten class.
More Starfall has a small fiction and nonfiction library that has engaging pictures and is read for the student. It reviews color words. It has short vowel readers, additional readers focusing on a variety of topics and phonics, short vowel games, and alphabet letter rhymes. It supports math with some math songs and interactive activities to support number recognition, counting, addition, subtraction, measurement, and geometry. There is a teacher section that slows teachers to generate customizable practice pages for letter formation, high frequency words, and number recognition. It does have a sign in feature that tracks how often students sign in.
